Abstract
Personality, consistent individual differences in behavior across time and situations (Pervin and John (1997) as cited in 1), can be studied to improve animal welfare in captivity. Sea lions are common in zoos and aquariums and are frequently involved in training programs, but no data on personality traits in California sea lions (Zalophus californianus) exist (Figure 1). We conducted a crosssetting study in five different Wildlife Conservation Society (WCS) parks in which zookeepers completed personality surveys that we developed on the sea lions with whom they worked.
