Abstract
Little is known about the impact of the Indian Ocean tsunami on wildlife populations. Five species of sea turtle nest on the beaches of southern Sri Lanka; initial reports after the tsunami revealed damage to nesting beaches, hatcheries, and adult foraging habitat. We show that, in the year after the tsunami, the number of adult females returning to nesting beaches at Bundala National Park remained almost unchanged from previous years. © 2008 Chelonian Research Foundation.
