Abstract
Afghanistan is facing a decrease in wild faunal populations with the global trend in wildlife trade having a major effect. Approximately one-third of all birds and mammals globally are affected by continuing overharvesting to fuel the trade. To update available information and determine the current threat levels, WCS began a series of hunting and wildlife trade surveys in 2007. This constituted the first comprehensive examinatino of hunting and trade patterns in Afghanistan since 2001. The data revealed in this report provide interesting results including which species are targeted, end-markets and demand, changes in faunal species abundance and trade volumes.
