Abstract
We provide comments on many of the proposals and other documents that have been submitted for consideration at CoP17, based on the best available scientific and technical information, our own perspectives, and our experience specializing in fish and wildlife ecology, conservation biology, landscape ecology, and species at risk assessment and recovery in Canada. We also comment for the record on two procedural issues regarding Canada's implementation of CITES: reservations entered by Canada to all amendments to the Appendices adopted at a CoP, then only removed after taking over a year to put the new listings into domestic regulations, along with inadequate reporting on annual reports of international trade of species on Appendix II and III for a number of years.
