Abstract
Invasive species are an important threat to conserving native biodiversity and can have important consequences on economic sectors such as agriculture, forestry, and recreation Ontario. We agree with many of the points raised in the Ontario Ministry of Natural Resources (MNR) Invasive Species Discussion Paper, including that invasive species are a growing threat to Ontario's economy and biodiversity. We remain concerned about the tensions between managing biodiversity vs. the economic impacts of invasive species. We offer suggestions to help reduce the rate of invasive species introduction, and provide several options to help address this issue. We address the lack of attention to invasive species in the Far North, restoration, and the implications of defining invasive species as those whose introduction or spread is linked to climate change.
