Abstract
This paper describes the concept of the human footprint, a map of the influence of humans on the Earth’s land surface, which suggests that human beings are stewards of nature, whether we like it or not. From the derived data, it also determines the “10%” wildest areas” in each biome, the 10 largest of which were deemed the “last of the wild”. Both concepts of the human footprint and the last of the wild are important tools for conservation.
