Abstract
This article is a response to a paper that argues that the evolution of improved foraging traits in Arctic lemmings corresponds to an ancient ecological shift from a predator-controlled to a food-limited system (Okasanen et al. 2008). This commentary highlights study generalizations that place too much emphasis on the lemming-moss relationship in the food-limiting model and calls for more detailed seasonal data before making conclusions on the dynamics behind lemming population patterns.
