The Status of Bengal Floricans in the Bengal Florican Conservation Areas- 2009-10 monitoring report

Abstract
In February 2010 the existing provincial Integrated Farming and Biodiversity Areas (IFBAs) were recognized as conservation sites of national importance by the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries (MAFF) and 312 km2 of breeding and non-breeding habitat are now protected and managed by MAFF as Bengal Florican Conservation Areas (BFCAs). The former Veal Srongai IFBA was however not included in the BFCA network and is now unprotected. Florican population monitoring in Cambodia is conducted by the Wildlife Conservation Society as an activity under the Tonle Sap Conservation Project, with support from other organizations and donors and in partnership with the Forestry Administration. This report summarises results of monitoring work and related activities conducted between September 2009 and August 2010.
